Membership

At Good Shepherd Anglican Church, we recognize two forms of membership: Community Membership and Confirmed Membership.

  • Community Members are those who identify with the local church community of Good Shepherd Anglican Church. They love worshiping with our church family and desire to follow Jesus through the relationships and life of this congregation.

    Community Members do not need to embrace every distinctive of the Anglican tradition. Rather, they commit to following Jesus alongside the people of Good Shepherd, participating in the worship, fellowship, mission, and life of the church.

  • Confirmed Members are those who desire not only to belong to Good Shepherd Anglican Church but also to identify with the broader Anglican tradition. Through Confirmation, they publicly affirm their faith, embrace the Anglican tradition as they way they feel God is calling them to walk out their faith.

    Confirmation establishes a deeper connection with the wider Anglican Church and with our bishop, who serves as the chief pastor of our diocese.

  • A Question for Discernment

    Community Membership is for those who have found their church home at Good Shepherd Anglican Church and desire to follow Jesus within this local community.

    Ask yourself:

    Do you consider Good Shepherd Anglican Church your church home, and are you ready to affirm the commitments of membership and participate in the life and mission of this church? If so, Community Membership is for you.

    Confirmed Membership is for those who, in addition to making Good Shepherd Anglican Church their home, desire to embrace the Anglican tradition as their spiritual home.

    A helpful question to consider is:

    If you were to move away from our community, would you naturally seek out another Anglican church as your spiritual home? If so, Confirmed Membership may be the right next step for you.

  • The following requirements apply to both Community Membership and Confirmed Membership:

    • Be baptized with water in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

    • Give a credible testimony of your faith in Jesus Christ (included as part of the membership application).

    • Affirm these fundamental Doctrines of the Chruch.

      • The authority of Holy Scripture.

      • The Gospel sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.

      • The Triune God as confessed in the historic Creeds of the Church.

      • The full deity and full humanity of Jesus Christ as affirmed by the Ecumenical Councils of the early Church.

  • Members of Good Shepherd Anglican Church commit to:

    • Worship and Serve: Gather faithfully for worship and use your time, gifts, and talents to serve the church and our neighbors.

    • Give Generously: Support the ministry of Good Shepherd Anglican Church through regular, prayerful financial giving. We encourage members to honor God with the firstfruits of their income (Proverbs 3:9).

    • Participate in the Life of the Church: Pray for the church, nominate qualified leaders when appropriate, and vote on important congregational matters when called upon.Item description

    1. Attend the three-session membership class.

    2. Complete the membership application, including a brief written testimony of your faith in Jesus Christ.

    3. Those pursuing Confirmed Membership who have not yet been confirmed will prepare to be confirmed by the bishop at the next available Confirmation service.Item description
